Required Information:

Candidate must be strong in the knowledge and fundamentals of volleyball.

Varsity volleyball coaching experience preferred.

DUTIES: Responsibilities include coaching the varsity team and overseeing the entire volleyball program, including JV, middle school teams and youth. The coach designs training plans, conducts practices, and manages game strategies to develop student-athletes’ skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Key duties also include assisting with contest scheduling, organizing and leading a youth volleyball program, supervising and evaluating sub-varsity coaches, communicating with parents, and fostering a positive team culture.

The Varsity Volleyball Head Coach is responsible for leading and developing a competitive volleyball program that emphasizes student-athlete growth, sportsmanship, teamwork, academic success, and positive school representation. The successful candidate will build a strong program culture while supporting the district’s mission of educational athletics.

Qualifications:

Prior coaching experience required; head coaching or coordinator experience preferred

CAP 1 or CAP 2 certification (or willingness to obtain prior to season)

Current CPR and AED certification

Ability to pass all district and state background checks

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, families, and the community

Commitment to academic success, sportsmanship, and player development

Knowledge of MHSAA rules and compliance requirements

Ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate with coaching staff at all levels

Primary Responsibilities:

Oversee all aspects of the high school volleyball program and establish a cohesive program vision

Coordinate both in-season and out-of-season practices, conditioning sessions, and development opportunities

Teach and communicate current rules, strategies, safety precautions, and fundamental skills to athletes, families, and staff

Cooperate and collaborate with sub-varsity coaches to ensure program alignment and support

Promote and model school policies, training rules, sportsmanship, and high character standards

Attend required league, district, and rules meetings and pursue ongoing professional development

Manage program inventory and collaborate with the athletic director on budgeting and purchasing

Maintain accurate records related to attendance, equipment, and program documentation

Serve as a positive representative of the athletic department and school district in all interactions

Organize team building activities including but not limited to Community Service Projects and attending Mass as a team.

Works to form young people, help them come to know and love Jesus, to be ready and able to share the good news of the Gospel.

Plan practice programs to promote the development of student’s physical attributes and social skills.

Provide skill development and create opportunities for youth partner programs.

Understands, explains, and enforces safety rules and regulations.

Confers with students, parents, and school counselor to resolve student problems.

Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

Overseeing the safety conditions of the facility/area in which assigned activity/event is conducted at all times, especially when students are present.

Positively promote and represent Powers Catholic and uphold the proud Powers Catholic tradition in his/her time as a representative of the school.

Minimum Qualifications:

Coaching experience preferred.

Understanding of the game’s rules and regulations.

Basic background check will be conducted.

Complete Diocese of Lansing Virtus training upon hire.

Coaches must maintain a current CPR.
